This document is a copy of a reading list associated with a class I taught on the emergence and florescence of chiefdoms in eastern North America. The bibliography is not meant to be all-encompassing but it does contain some articles of interest to the topic, both on the theoretical and applied levels. The list begins with Mississippian-related readings but also includes readings on theory related to sociopolitical organization, bioanthropology, the Iroquois, and Algonquian-speakers on the eastern seaboard. Use this list at your own risk.
