My name is Ron Schiesz and I am a faculty member at the College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois. As a major part of my responsibilities I work closely with students who are enrolled in distance and alternative delivered courses offered through the Centers for Independent Learning (CIL). In the past I coordinated the Independent Study/Special Projects Program at the college when a full-time faculty member at the College. Recently I have created several web sites that are designed to assist distance learners to gather information online to help them in making more informed decisions. These online resources cover course selection, career and graduation planning, planning for assessment & testing services, course transfer information, receiving credit for prior learning, as well as arranging for personal and life transition counseling related to education. • Serves as a "gateway" for Distance Learners to gather information about and access various online student and academic support services including e-mail links to these college service area offices
• Provides 51 different well organized links to both on and off campus web pages
• Designed to serve prospective students, enrolled distance learners, COD staff and faculty and community members needing information about our various support services

• Access to course listings & course materials for our Internet delivered courses
• Access to WebBoard Conferencing area for group and individual conferencing
• Preliminary information in an FAQ section for students about the nature of our Internet courses and the necessary study habits, hardware and software requirements and course expectations needed to be successful
• Provides a table of e-mail links to our Online faculty

• Serves as a gateway for orienting students who are referred from the Illinois Virtual Campus website in order to gather information about our COD Online courses
• Provides an overview of support services and orientation related information for Illinois citizens considering enrolling for a COD Online course at College of DuPage
