Studying Biology at College of DuPage, IL
Link to Study Aids for Anatomy and Physiology
PhD University of Rochester: I majored in Microbiology. My thesis
research was on antibody-mediated immunity to human cytomegalovirus
MS Cornell University: I majored in Food Science. My thesis research was
on bacterial enzymes that hydrolyze milk proteins during the ripening of soft
cheeses
BA University of Rochester: I majored in Biology. My work as a student
lab assistant in Cell Biology convinced me that I wanted to pursue a career in
biology.
Microbiologist at National Institutes of Health: I worked in the Caries
Prevention Branch of the National Institute of Dental Research. I investigated
the influences of diet and genetics on tooth decay. I also tested the effects
of anti-microbial agents on dental plaque formation.
Lab Technician at University of Rochester: I worked in a clinical
virology laboratory. We developed tests to detect various virus infections and
patients' immune responses to these infections. I investigated cytomegalovirus
infection in kidney transplant patients who are susceptible to disease because
their immune systems are depressed.
I grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey. I moved to Illinois in 1979 when my husband, Doug, began working for Amoco (which has now become British Petroleum). We have three grown children and an Australian shepherd dog. I have been a full-time faculty member at COD for six years. Prior to that I worked at COD as a part-time professor.
