Catalog Description:
Inspection, construction, operation, and diagnosis of automatic and manual transmission, transaxle, transfer case, and driveline electrical components and controls. Includes fundamental theory, operation, construction, inspection, and diagnosis of switches, sensors, solenoids, motors, and control devices. 3 credit hours (1 lecture, 4 lab)

Notebook (3-Ring type Binder at least 1.5 Inches suggested)

Course Activities
Lab Activities/Assignments Lab Sheets related to the text and discussions will be used for lab activities. Lab activities may be added/omitted as time and/or resources allow.
Chapter review multiple choice questions will be assigned for all chapters to be covered, due dates will be announced during class. Answers are to be submitted on the Blackboard course system.
Supplemental homework assignments will be given out as well to go with class and lab activities.
Examinations: There will be several tests given during the semester. Each may include multiple choice, multiple answer, true/false, matching, identification, fill-in-the-blank type questions and may include hands on evaluations from the recently covered chapters, lecture, and labs. Take-home type exams will be given on the Blackboard Course system.
Attendance Policy
Everyday the class will meet in TE 0041 for attendance. Class starts promptly at the designated time, do not be late. The student must inform the instructor if he or she arrived late that day after class otherwise he/she will be marked absent.
Attendance cannot increase a student’s grade but it can reduce the final grade. If you miss a class, you can contact me by phone or e-mail to find out what you missed, and if there is an assignment for the next class. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to arrange an appointment to make up work you missed by being absent.
Attendance is mandatory. Your earned grade will be lowered, according to the following scale.
4 absences– computed grade will be lowered one letter grade
5 or 6 absences– computed grade will be lowered two letter grades
7 or more absences constitutes a failing grade
Not being prepared for class will be counted as a tardy (for example: no tools for lab, no books, etc).
Tardy – arriving late for class but before 15 minutes have elapsed.
Late – arriving more than 15 minutes late for class
Absent – non attendance
Every late will be counted as ½ of an absent
Every tardy will be counted as ¼ of an absent.
Grading Policy
Your final course grade will be computed as follows:

Final Grade Computation
Forty percent of your grade will be generated by your test points. Be aware that most tests are open format. Be sure to bring all materials given to you by the instructor, all materials that are assigned to you, and your book to the test sessions. You are only allowed to use what you bring to class.
Forty percent of your grade will be generated from your lab work. Any labs not made up within 2 weeks of in-class completion will be deducted points for late completion. ALL MAKE UP LABS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE FINALS WEEK BEGINS! After this date any unfinished labs will be scored a ZERO.
Twenty percent of your grade will be from points from the chapter review questions and assigned homework. Chapter review questions must be turned in on due date, late homework will not be accepted and will result in ZERO points earned for the late homework.
Reminder: Your grade can also be lowered due to the attendance policy, for example, based upon your tests, lab work, and chapter review questions you scored 75%; If you were absent 4 (2 for once a week class) classes, were late 1 time and tardy 2 times your grade would drop 2 letters from a C to an F.
Attitude
It is my goal to increase professionalism in the automotive repair trade. In this vain, the student’s job in the lab is to impress the instructor with some pride in workmanship. This includes safety glasses, fender covers, safe driving habits and following instructions.
The instructor will evaluate how a job is done and the proper rating will be circled on the training record. This attitude grade will also be considered on classroom instruction. Note: No A’s will be assigned for lab work without safety glasses/goggles!
Checking your Grade
Grade status will be reported to you near mid-semester by your instructor and a review of progress is always available with an appointment. Your current grade status may also be checked at any time by logging into the Blackboard Course System and selecting "My Grades".
