Adding a Graphic to the page

After you begin a project by any of the three methods START FROM SCRATCH, HELP ME DESIGN, or CUSTOMIZE A QUICK START LAYOUT (return to those pages for how to get started in any method), you may want to add more pictures and graphics to it.

  1. Begin with a left click on the INSERT GRAPHIC button in the vertical object tool bar at the left of the program. This opens up the SELECT A GRAPHIC dialog box, where you choose your graphic. You can also access the graphics with a left click on the INSERT menu, move the mouse cursor to the GRAPHIC option and left click on ALL or a specific graphic type. This ALSO opens the SELECT A GRAPHIC dialog box

select a graphic.bmp (1440054 bytes) The SELECT A GRAPHIC dialog box lets you search alphabetically through the list of graphics for one that you like. Some of the graphics need to access the program CD disk to show you the pictures so you may need to place the PRINT SHOP PREMIER EDITION CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.

If you want to see every graphic available in The SELECT A GRAPHIC dialog box, be sure you have ALL CATAGORIES chosen at the top, and ALL TYPES chosen in the SHOW GRAPHIC TYPES section.
Adjust the scroll bar to view down the list. They are in alphabetical order with numbers being listed before a, b, c, etc.

You may also view the graphics in three ways:
  • Gallery view = shows 4 items at a time
  • LARGE VIEW = shows one graphic at a time
  • LIST VIEW = subdivides the viewing area to show a list of all of the graphic items by name and then shows that selected graphic one at a time.

When you find a graphic that you like, select it with a single left click and then left click on OK OR double left click on the graphic. Your chosen graphic will be be put in the center of your project page ready for further resizing and/or placement.

    Positioning a graphic box

Assuming you have a graphic on your project page, it needs to be selected before you can do anything with it. A graphic box usually appears selected after you finish choosing a graphic from the SELECT A GRAPHIC dialog box. If there are several items on the page, you must select one by moving the mouse until the arrow pointer cursor is over the object and left click on the object. It will appear the same as the text box with control handles in the four corners and a center line with a box handle on it:

  1. Your mouse cursor changes shape when it is positioned over different elements of the object. It will be a double arrowhead when positioned over the control handles, it will be a circular arrow (: ) when over the control handle on the center line, it will be a pointing hand when it is inside the graphic box margins, and it will be a pointer when it is over other areas of the page.
  2. To move a graphic box, move the mouse until it is over the object and turns into a pointing hand. Hold the left mouse button down and drag the entire graphic box to its new location. When you have positioned the item in the place you want it, let go of the mouse button.

  2. Position the mouse cursor over one of the four corner control handles. The cursor changes to a double arrowhead
  3. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the control box handle away from the object to make it larger or toward the object to make it smaller. Most objects have their aspect ratio locked and can not be distorted. It will keep the new size when you release the left mouse button.
