
HTML 101
Basic HTML for your Website
This is an explanation of the basic information that goes into your website.
Clarification will be made in class.
- Use of brackets
- HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language. You are indicating the language of your file.
- HEAD - Heading: Your Page Title. This holds the key words of the web page. It
identifies your information and is used in searches by web crawlers. It appears as the
header of the page when printed out.
- /HEAD - End Head tag
- BODY - The bulk of your web page.
It can hold:
- Personal/Company name or Homepage name - This is often the same information that
is in the HEAD. This appears in the body of your page and prints out in the middle bulk of
the page.
- Company/Personal logo or picture - your picture, logo, artwork, business card,
etc.
- Company Location - If you are trying to reach a buying audience, place location
near the top of the document so people can see it early in their browse. Personal contact
is usually at the end of the page in the ADDRESS.
- Mission Statement - non-profit organizations
- Product or Service you offer - brief description with links to detailed
information.
- LINKS - hyperlinks to other web pages:
- Catalogue or album - auxilliary information for your website or an album of
family or hobby pictures
- Order forms - ordering information for on-line services and purchases
- Store outlet locations or websites like yours
- Background info for you and/or your company
- Related topics or company subsidiaries - that relate to your site or other sites
that you've found which share your hobbies, interests, your personal hot picks on the Net.
- Thanks for visiting my website. - or other closing remarks
- Last Updated: 7:05 PM on 10/04/98 - date of last update to this particular page
- /(END) BODY - End Body tag
- ADDRESS - Contact information:
- Direct contact: Area code and telephone number (with voice mail number)
- E-Mail (electronic mail) address
- Snail mail address (The U.S. Postal Service)
- Home button or icon - Provide good navigational tools to bring users back to the
homepage of your website. the college or server, the webmaster of your server
