PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Since graduating from the University of Illinois at Chicago, I have worked at the Argonne National Laboratories, in the private sector, and taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have been a Professor of Economics and Statistics at the College of DuPage since 1981.

By training, I am a Health Economist with many years of experience in applying econometric methods to all types of data. I have published a number of articles in refereed journals and in Federal Government Publications.

Currently, my research interests are focused in the area of Health Economics of Aging and Elder Care (nursing homes, home health care, and hospice care), international morbidity and mortality trends and their impact on the future health and welfare of the world's people, and population projections of needs, expenditures, and costs for health care. But I have also published articles and done research on hospital trauma care and emergency room care, asthma, tuberculosis, occupational and environmental diseases, the impact, costs and benefits of carbon monoxide detectors in the home, and a reanalysis of federal government estimates of national health care expenditures using real cost and payment data rather than charge data.

HE HAS A LIFE!

When I am not teaching, doing research or pondering the economic and financial problems of the universe, I am involved in many diverse activities.I enjoy playing the financial markets and so I get up each morning at 4 AM to watch CNBC Cable while I am riding my exercise bicycle. Being a Polish-Italian hunk in my fantasies, I also work out at the gym near my home each afternoon.

CNBC financial news is on once again when I return home. Then, I flip the dial over to Nightly Business Report for a recap of the day's events at 11:00 pm each evening. I generally watch “The Match Game" on GSN. “The Pretender” will always live on in my world.  And “Six Feet Under” is one of the greatest series of all times.

As a lifelong Chicago resident, I have lived and died with the CUBS. Enough said.

If it is a 3-day weekend, you can be sure to find me either in the mountains of Arizona or at the clubs of Miami's South Beach or the monuments and museums of Washington, D.C. Sometimes I need the peaceful and relaxing environment of the Southwest. At other times, I crave a sweaty dance floor overlooking the ocean.

As a college student of the 70s, I learned to love the nightlife and to boogie to a disco and salsa beat. Retro music, as they call it today, can be heard pulsating from my car as I roll down the Eisenhower each morning at 5:30 am. LOVE FM 100.3 FM is my favorite radio station. YES, the BEAT goes on with their latest CDs, too.

Some day I hope to convert my car to a "low-rider" with hydraulics and flashing lights. Then, my life will indeed be complete!

Finally, my top 20 movies of all time:
#20 "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off "
#19 "Xanadu"
#18 "Regular Guys"
#17 "The Man I Love"
#16 "The Trip"
