These sites are good places for new students of literature to begin.They are good overviews, have enthusiasm, or are just plain fun.

  • The Annenberg/CPB Project Exhibits Collection
    • This page on Literature invites students to start their study with the basic elements of short fiction presented clearly and concisely.
  • Lyricalworks
    • Melissa Osborne's site demonstrates the dedication which only love of literature can produce. Her emphasis is on the new reader encountering intensely "the raw materials of meaning: symbols, myths, dreams, and stories."
  • The Internet Public Library 
    • http://www.ipl.org
    • This site is one of the best collective research sites you could find: it includes, for example, "2498 critical and biographical websites about authors and their works that can be browsed by author, by title, or by literary period."  In addition, "The IPL Reading Room Serials collection contains over 2300 titles that can be searched or browsed by subject or by title." The IPL is a great place to begin researching an author or title for online materials. Use it just as you would any great library.

    • An unusual site devoted to helping students on the web in their research and writing task, be sure you visit the Great Books pages when you tour. It provides an excellent and comprehensive timeline/table approach which combines famous figures from different art.
  • Voice of the Shuttle

    • http://www.bibliomania.com/bibliomania-static/index.html
    • This site is an excellent and invaluable collection of materials for the student of literature, including etexts as well as many valuable reference works.
