The Literary Apprentice
Interpreting Your Results of the LRQ

Assessing Your Reading

Here are your results for the LRQ: Below you will see a chart with your scores listed across the top. You have a score for each which represents an average of the items that reflect the category. The categories or domains are listed across the bottom of the chart. Each average falls between 1 and five.

Your Scores are in the row just below this one and match the appropriate columns:

5
4
3
2
1
Personal Insight Non-personal Insight Insight Combined Empathy Imagery Vividness Leisure Escape Concern with Author Story-Driven Reading Rejecting Literary Values

The nine scores reflect the seven domains as named by the designers of the questionnaire, Miall and Kuiken. Note that the first three relate to one domain, Insight, with the Combined Insight score being the average of the first two.The score areas are the following items:

    1. Personal Insight
    2. Non-personal Insight
    3. Combined Insight score

    4.
    Empathy
    5. Imagery Vividness
    6. Leisure Escape
    7. Concern with author
    8. Story-Driven
    9. Rejection of Literary Values

A average for a domain which approaches 5 would indicate that you are extremely high in this factor. Clearly a score that approaches 1 would indicate a very low level of intensity with this factor. You should print this page and use your scores to graph a line on the chart that represents the different values.

If you wish to understand what these domains entail or what your pattern of scores might indicate, please go on to page two.
