Physics 1100
(Page under construction.)

The goal of this course is for students to enhance their view of the physical world by allowing them to acquire a basic understanding of the physical concepts involved with motion and forces, momentum and energy, rotation, gravitation, properties of matter, heat and thermodynamics, waves and sound, electricity and magnetism, light, and atomic/nuclear physics.

This course will focus on conceptual understanding rather than mathematical manipulation. However, as mathematics is the language of science, it is expected that you can perform basic algebraic calculations and recognize basic geometric relations throughout the course.

Welcome to Physics 1100 (Spring 2012)

Please continue to monitor this space for important information and course and updates.
This page will be updated on a regular basis. However, here are a few announcements to help you get started:

  • Be sure to finish reading Chapter 7 for class on Monday, February 13th. We will continue our discussion of Chapter 7 and do algebraic examples on Monday.

  • The Homework Questions and the Homework Exercises & Problems for Chapters 6-7 have been activated. These will now be due by 8:30 AM on Wednesday, February 15th. Note that you can get 10% extra credit for completing any part of any Exercise/Problem by 8:30 AM on Monday, February 13th.

  • Tuesday Lab Group: Your next laboratory session will take place on Tuesday, February 14th in M-164-B. Your entire Investigation #4: Newton's 3rd Law... packet (pp. 63-78) will be due at 9:00 AM. Click on the "Submission of Investigation #4" link below to see what is required upon submission. Also, be sure to complete the Pre-lab for Investigation #4 PRIOR to entering the lab. The Pre-lab is due by 9:00 AM in order to count for the potential bonus. Pre-labs submitted after 9:00 AM but before the end of the session do not receive the bonus. Pre-labs not submitted before the end of the session incur a 10% penalty on that investigation.

  • Check out the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety website. Click on the link below and enter the information of the car that you drive the most. How well would your car protect you in a vehicle crash? See some more VIDEOS of other vehicle crash tests.

  • Be sure to read Chapter 8 for class on Wednesday, February 15th. Be prepared to "celebrate" Chapter 8 at the beginning of class.
