Exams: All exams will be short answer/essay/problem style, with strong emphasis on problem solving. Some exams may be all or part take-home. There will be three exams, worth a total of 300 points. Missing any exam without replacing it will be grounds for failing this class. The last exam may not be made up.

1. If you know that you will be unable to attand a scheduled exam, it is your responsibility to make arrangements for a possible early exam. If you fail to take your exam early, you must follow regular rules for missed exams.
2. Most important! You must notify me no later than the day of the exam of your absence and the reason for that absence. If you fail to follow this rule, I am within my rights to refuse to give you a replacement exam. Absolutely no exceptions to this requirement.
3. If you miss an exam, and take proper action (as per #2 above), you will probably qualify for a replacement exam. See here for specifics.

Research Paper: You will be expected to complete a formal paper aproximately 15 pages in length. Instructions for this paper may be found at the other end of the link. You may select any topic you wish, as long as there is a clear connection between your topic and the discipline of genetics. This assignment includes two required progress reports plus the final paper, which is due at the end of the sixteenth week of the semester. Late papers will be penalized 10% for each day late (see Facts of Life).

Discussion Assignments: Go to http://www.cod.edu/people/faculty/fancher/genetics/120DiscAss.htm for your discussion assignments. 15 points each. Most discussions will take place on Thursdays, according to the schedule distributed in class. The only way to be eligible for the 15 points for these assignments is to be in class during the discussion and to turn your assignment in at that time. Don't turn your discussion assignments in early, and don't turn them in late.
