Half Dome and Nevada Falls from Glacier Point

Hike the Trails of Yosemite National Park

There is no place in the world like Yosemite National Park. Giant granite rock faces, numerous record-sized waterfalls, giant ancient Sequoias and miles and miles of breath-taking scenery. Hike and/or backpack the scenic trails of Yosemite and view the natural sites that inspired the naturalist John Muir, the poet Gary Snyder and the photographer Ansel Adams.  We'll read and discuss the works of Muir and Snyder and study Adams' photographic artistry, and review the fundamental skills of hiking in high altitudes, and backpacking. Optional overnight backpacking in Yosemite for those interested.

Class: August 21, 28, September 18 and October 9, 2008 -7-10PM

Field Study: September 4-8, 2008

Fee: $780 (includes all air and ground transportation, lodging, park fees and group camping/backpacking equipment)
