ABOUT ME.....

My name is Michael Duggan and I am a full-time counselor and instructor here at College of DuPage. I have been in community college education for almost ten years now and have loved every minute. Professional highlights of my career so far would include:

• Serving as a counselor/coordinator of a community college office that provided services to people with disabilities for over six years.
• Implementing several multi-thousand dollar grants through the years servicing and helping hundred of students succeed in graduating from college.
• Being honored at a community college graduation ceremony as an “instrumental counselor” by that year's outstanding Student of the Year (2004).
• Earning Tenure at College of DuPage in 2006 as a full-time counselor/associate professor.
  

ABOUT THE CLASSES I TEACH.....

I teach a variety of classes at College of DuPage which I thoroughly enjoy doing. They include:

• VO 0611--Employment Skills I for Persons with Developmental Disabilities. See the Vocational Skills web site.

I also enjoy facilitating a variety of workshops at COD on the topics of working with students with disabilities and diversity issues--two topics I am especially passionate about.

ABOUT MY BELIEFS IN COUNSELING.....

My style of counseling is on that emphasizes the importance and uniqueness of the individual. In working with students I try to learn as much about the person as possible and help them in identifying the barriers in their lives. I try to use humor and creativity in our discussions to help find solutions to questions students might have. At College of DuPage, myself, and all the other counselors here can provide counseling assistance in four distinct areas. They include:

• Career Counseling
• Academic Counseling
• Life Transition Counseling
• Personal Counseling

ABOUT MY HOBBIES...

Outside of work some of my personal hobbies would include:

• Playing video games
• Watching Simpson episodes over and over....
• Volunteering for Chicago Public Schools
• Sightseeing in Chicago
