Education:

I have an M.A. and a Ph. D in Modern European history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1974. My area of concentration was the Renaissance and Reformation. I was one of a very few women students in the history department. My last year there I was asked to take over my major professor’s teaching duties while he was on sabbatical. This was quite an honor. However, the chair of the department told me that although I was an outstanding student I would end up in a community college and without significant publications because I was a woman and I’d want to raise my children. He was right.

I got my B.A. from Fordham University in 1968. I graduated magna cum laude in cursu honorum and Phi Beta Kappa. I was in the first class at Fordham that admitted women.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught many history classes at the College of DuPage since l975. My primary responsibilities have been with Western Civilization classes, but I have also taught Humanities, Russian History, and the United States since 1945.

I have developed our Western Civilization sequence in the Center for Independent Learning.

I was part-time here for fifteen years while I raised my children. I was "Outstanding Part-Time Instructor" in 1987. I have been full-time since 1989.

Personal:

I have been married to my husband for thirty years. We have two daughters. One is a graduate of Northwestern University and is a reporter in Rockford. The other is a senior at Northwestern and is a philosophy major.

I love reading history, mystery, and science fiction. I feel a special affinity for the Middle Ages.

I have practiced the Japanese martial art Aikido for twenty years and have held a black belt rank for ten. For a great Aikido site from C.O.D click here.

I also have a Doberman Pinscher and two cats.
