Diptera: Ceratopogonidae (Biting Midges or No-see-ums)
- Elongate fly larvae with well-devloped head capsules.
- Most are thin and needlelike with no prolegs. May have bristles or hooks on the psterior end.
- Prolegs, if present, unpaired on first thoracic segment and paired on the last abdominal segment.
Those species with prolegs have long, conspicuous spines on the body segments.
Length: 3 mm to 12 mm
