The Portfolio Reflection Letter
At the end of the semester, you need to submit your final portfolio for a grade. The portfolio should come in a file folder or envelope, and include:
| Your best version of each of the three essays (you do not need to include drafts) | |
| A reflection letter that explains and evaluates each essay and reviews the development of your writing this semester |
The Reflection Letter: Your reflection letter, as the name implies, should reflect on how your writing has developed this semester. For each essay, describe
| what you were trying to achieve | |
| what kinds of decisions you made to accomplish your goals | |
| how the essay evolved through its revisions | |
| how successful you think the final piece is |
Your letter should also include (perhaps as the introduction or conclusion) an overall assessment of how you think your writing has developed this semester, and anything else you'd like me to know as I grade your portfolio.
The essay has no fixed length, but I do take it seriously as part of the whole package (and thus the portfolio grade), so don't wait until the last minute to write it. It should be focused, organized, and clear, just like your essays.
If you have any questions as you're working through your final revisions and writing your letter, feel free to come see me, call, or send an email. I'll be available throughout the last week of classes .
