Friday April 2: Meet in computer lab src3611. Be prepared to work on your Harper's Index statistic.
Monday April 5. There is no class meeting today. For Wednesday, you will need to have a draft of the Harper's Index paper. Don't begin by researching. Begin by answering the questions on the prompt in your syllabus. Write everything you know or think you understand about the issue already--THEN you will know what further information or support you need.
Read EARTHQUAKE NEWS p. 138-150. Can you find a structure for the essay? What kind of logic did the author use putting his essay together?
Friday April 9th we will meet in the computer lab for peer critique. Make sure you have a draft as complete and revised as possible
For Monday April 12: Begin revising your draft, using the "revision help" in the "readings" section of the website. Also, look at COD Library's wonderful research and MLA help. Use it for citing your sources. Your paper will be due on Monday April 19 with all drafts, critiques and homework.
Monday April 19: You must explain at least one major revision you made in your final paper, using the website ideas to help you revise or deas to help you revise that we reviewed in class on Wednesday. You will have time in the computer lab Friday to work on this.
Also for Monday April 19: Have read "Let Them Eat Fat" p.104
Write about the argument Critser is making. Do you accept it?
For Wednesday, April 21: Read "The Dying and Reviving of Death" p. 395. Write briefly about your personal knowledge/experience with death and relate your experience to the article.
Monday april 26: Read p.253 "Life Online." Indicate where/how the writer exhibits the following traits of academic inqiry: suspending judgment, thinking dialectically (dialectic: the art or practice of arriving at the truth by the exchange of logical arguments), asking questions, taking responsibility for one's ideas, and tolerating ambiguity.
Wed. April 28: Bring in three possible research topics, with a brief statement (1 paragraph) for each about how the topic might be developed.
