First Paper

Explore  aspects of Ultimate Reality you notice in Oedipus and at least one other text (Analects, Tao Chi'en, Buddhadasa, Genesis 1, Michaelangelo) used in the course. It should be a comparative treatment of a theme in two or more texts. All statements and support should be strongly related to the texts. It is a good idea to discuss your topic with me, unless you are especially independent-minded. You are welcome to discuss your vague ideas with me, before your topic takes a definite shape; if you have trouble deciding on a topic, I will be happy to help.

  1. What do the characters in Oedipus the King value?  Are their values portrayed as admirable or suspect?  Do their values seem to be criticized or honored in the play?
