First Short Writing Assignment due Sept. 26.

 Describe the setting, choosing at least one to explain in some detail.  Explain how the setting you described affects  mood(s) in the film.  Explain how the setting reveals time and place.  Explain how setting is used to reveal what the characters are like.  Comment on the composition of one of the frames/scenes: background, foreground, balance, imbalance, centered within the frame or not.  See if you can link mise-en-scene to a political viewpoint, a commercial viewpoint, a parody or homage to another text or film. If you are writing about “Caligari”, perhaps you can explain how its mise-en-scene is influential or referenced  in other films.
