COD's Reading Assistance Area (IC3040)
The Reading Assistance Area of the Academic Support Center helps you become an effective, efficient reader. The strategies you can learn there will help make you a skilled reader and that will make a difference in your achievement and success!
Ask Yourself:
- Do I know how to organize the information I am reading from my texts?
- Do I find it difficult to identify the important information contained in a paragraph, a graph, or a schematic?
- Can I tell how the other sentences in a textbook chapter or article support the key ideas? Can I tell how the ideas relate to each other?
- Can I tell the difference between important and unimportant information?
- Can I put what I read into my own words?
- Can I read at different rates? Do I know why I should?
- Do I know when I don't understand the material?
The faculty consultants in the Reading Assistance Area can help you answer "YES" to these questions. They will work one-on-one with you on your reading assignments or direct you to individualized assistance at a computer station.
If you want to enhance your reading skills and become a more successful student, come visit the Reading Assistance Area in IC 3040. Sign up for an appointment at the reception desk, or just drop by.
