Choosing your fall classes is easy.
For the best selection of classes, attend an Orientation/Advising/Registration
session as close to your registration time as possible.
In
late June, watch for the letter from the Registration office
containing the date
and time you are eligible to register.
You may register at, or any time after, your assigned time.
You
may be required to take placement tests in reading, writing
and/or math. Placement tests may be taken at a time and location
convenient for you. To verify if you are required to take a placement
test, you can do either of the following:
• See the section regarding assessment and testing below.
• Speak with an adviser or counselor in Counseling and
Advising, SRC 2044,

• ESL Advising is available in the Berg Instructional Center (IC), Room 2084C.

Orientation
sessions
are offered from Monday,
July 7, to Friday,
Aug. 15, on the following days and times:
Mondays,
Tuesdays and Thursdays:
10 a.m., noon, 2 and
4 p.m.
Wednesdays:
10 a.m., noon, 2, 4 and 6 p.m.
Fridays:
10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
Parents are invited to join their student at any of the above sessions. Separate parent-only sessions are offered every Wednesday at
10 a.m., 2 and 6 p.m.
All sessions begin in the Student Resource Center, Jack H. Turner Conference Center (SRC 2800). A downloadable Orientation/Advising/Registration brochure (PDF) is available for more information.
Please
note: Students arriving after a session is in progress will
be directed to the next available session.
Allow at
least two and one-half hours for the entire process (orientation,
advising, building your schedule and registration).
Sessions
include:
• Orientation
information on college policies, procedures and services
• Advising on degree requirements
• An individual meeting with an adviser for course selection
• Interpretation of placement test scores
• Registration permits, if necessary
Registration staff will be on hand to help you with registration.
To register for classes, you’ll need to have:
• PIN (Personal Identification Number)
• Social Security Number
• Course Codes
You should also complete any necessary placement tests before attending one of the Orientation/Advising/Registration sessions.

Assessment and Testing
Reading
Competency Requirement | All new students at College
of DuPage who are enrolling for six or more cumulative credit
hours of college-level classes (courses numbered 1000-level or
above) are required to take the Reading Placement Test. Students
are exempt from this test if they have one of the following:
• College credits totaling 30 semester hours with a “C” average
• ACT composite score of at least 20 — proof of score
required
• SAT verbal score of at least 500 — proof of score
required
• TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper version) or 213 (computer
version) or 79 (Internet-based)
Writing | All students wishing to enroll in English 1101, Composition,
or English 1105, Intro to Technical Writing, are required to take
a Writing Placement Test and show evidence of having
met the Reading Competency Requirement. Students may also be
required to complete a Writing Placement Essay.
Mathematics | Students who intend to enroll in Mathematics 0482,
1218, 1220, 1428, 1431, 1432, 2134 or 2231, or many science classes
as their first course at College of DuPage, are required to take
a Math Placement Test before enrolling. No calculators are permitted.
In addition to a placement test score, some classes also require
prerequisite coursework. Students who are unsure about which
math course to take should meet with an adviser or counselor
before taking the Math Placement Test. Practice questions are
available at www.act.org/compass/sample.
Please
Note: Plan on spending up to one hour for each test. Students
taking the assessment tests are required to show a picture
ID, such as a driver’s license.
How to Prove Prerequisites
Math and Chemistry courses taken in high school:
Official high school transcripts should be sent to the College
of DuPage Records office before you register. Transcripts will
be evaluated for math and chemistry courses. The evaluation
process can take three to four weeks.
Courses taken at another college or university:
Official transcripts should be sent to
the College of DuPage Records office and students should request
a transfer
evaluation (PDF file) before registration.
Location and Directions
The
Orientation/Advising/Registration sessions are conducted on
the second floor of the Student Resource Center (SRC), Room 2800,
next to the Library. Students should enter the SRC through the
north entrance, just off of Fawell Boulevard. Directional signs
