College of DuPage Hosts Community College Open Educational Resources Summit Nov. 30

Educators and support staff will explore the issue of college affordability through the use of open educational resources (OERs) at a summit from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000, on the College’s Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
Aimed at Illinois Community College faculty, administrators, librarians, and instructional designers, the all-day event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Lisa Young, who will discuss using real world benefits to demonstrate the benefits of OER to students, faculty and institutions of higher learning. Additional presentations include “Estimating Student Savings From Textbook Affordability Initiatives” by Linn-Benton Community College’s Amy Hoffer, and “Scaling OER for Impact” by Rice University’s Nicole Finkbeiner. Other presentations include “OER Lessons Learned,” a panel discussion facilitated by Una Daly, Director of the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources, and breakout sessions covering promotion and support of OER initiatives.
This summit is sponsored by College of DuPage, the College of DuPage Foundation, College of Lake County and Illinois Community Colleges Online.
