Make College of DuPage Your One-Stop Shop This Holiday Season

season's greetings

By Angela Mennecke

The holiday shopping season is in full swing, which, for many people, can become overwhelming and time-consuming. For the fitness enthusiast to the theater aficionado to the person who has everything, College of DuPage provides relief from the daunting task of finding the perfect gift.

Following are holiday gift ideas that can be purchased and enjoyed on COD’s Glen Ellyn campus:

For the Person Who Needs to Unwind
Give the gift of relaxation with a gift certificate to COD’s massage clinic. All massages are performed by a licensed massage therapist onsite at the College. Gifting a massage can be pricey, but at COD, a high-quality, one-hour treatment is only $59, with $10 off the first session. Seated massages are $30 for a half-hour treatment.

For more information on services and to buy a gift card, contact Melissa Fanella, Program Development Manager, at fanellam@cod.edu or (630) 942-2208.

For the Couple Who Needs a Getaway
For those who desire a weekend getaway but don’t have time to travel far, consider a gift card for a night stay at the Inn at Water’s Edge in one of six fully-appointed suites. The adjacent McAninch Arts Center makes it possible for them to enjoy a show with their overnight stay.

Nightly rates start at $135/night and include complimentary fitness center use, free parking, complimentary wireless internet access, 24-hour coffee service and a signature breakfast. If the price is a deterrent, think about making this a group gift.

Stop by the front desk at the Inn at Water’s Edge located in COD’s Culinary & Hospitality Center to pick up a gift card. Call (630) 942-6888 for more information.

For the Person Who Doesn’t Have Time to Cook
Give the gift of convenience with a gift card to COD’s onsite restaurant, the Waterleaf. Patrons will enjoy students' culinary creativity, utilizing fresh regional and seasonal ingredients as well as attentive service from the College’s Restaurant Service students. The Waterleaf serves casual lunch or dinner, a sampling of global cuisine, or a multi-course modern spin on classic dishes depending on the season.

Contact Laura Lerdal, Culinary Market and Lab Coordinator, at lerdal@cod.edu or (630) 942-2359 for more information and to purchase a gift card.

For the Person Wanting to Jump-Start Their New Year’s Resolution
Help jump-start a friend’s healthy resolution with a gift certificate for a personal training session at Chap Fitness. Personal training sessions are $20/session, which is much more affordable than many local gyms. From Nov. 16 to Dec. 7, buy five personal training sessions at $20/session to get one free.

Contact Matt Cousins, Chap Fitness Manager, for more information at cousins@cod.edu or (630) 942-2956.

For the Theater Geek in All of Us
Tickets to a show at the McAninch Arts Center are a great gift for those who enjoy music, theater or dance. There are several holiday-themed shows, including “A Christmas Carol,” “A Doo Wop Christmas Show” and “The Second City’s Dysfunctional Holiday Review” which all make for a fun night out. View upcoming shows and purchase tickets.

For questions about a specific performance, contact the MAC Box Office at (630) 942-4000.

For the Coffee Addict
While the lines might be long before and after a class gets out, drop by during a lull and grab a gift card, a bag of coffee beans or a decorative mug at the on-campus Starbucks located on the second floor of the Student Resource Center. Starbucks is open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. Call (630) 942-3191 with questions.

For the Beauty Queen or King
The Salon@COD provides hands-on experience to students while offering a full range of salon services to members of the community at a fraction of the cost of professional salons. Buy a pre-purchased service and receive 50 percent off. This promotion ends on Dec. 8. View the menu of services.

The Salon@COD is located at COD’s Addison campus, 301 S. Swift Road. For more information, contact Mia Boyd, Program Coordinator, at boydm72@cod.edu or (630) 942-2918.

For the COD Student or Alumni
The Follett COD Bookstore makes holiday shopping easy. From books to COD apparel to technology gadgets, the bookstore, located in the Student Resource Center, has it all. Don’t have time to hit up the bookstore? Shop for gifts online. Another option is to gift a bookstore gift card. For questions, call (630) 942-2360.

For the Person Who Has Everything
Know a person who has everything and doesn’t need another gift? Instead of buying a physical gift, make an impact and with a donation to COD’s Foundation in that person’s name. With nearly 200 established scholarship and academic program funds in more than 40 different areas, giving opportunities abound. View all funds to choose from.

Another option is to fund a named scholarship to establish a legacy or honor another's memory. To speak with someone regarding starting a scholarship fund, please contact the COD Foundation at foundation@cod.edu or (630) 942-2462. If you make a donation before the end of the year, it’s tax deductible!
