The McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage is one of only 29 area organizations, and one of only two education organizations, to receive an Illinois Arts Council Partner in Excellence Grant for 2018.

IAC’s PIE program recognizes organizations that bring access to high quality arts activities to diverse communities throughout Illinois and provides general operating support to designated organizations of scale and significance in all regions of the state. The program places a priority on access to arts programs for rural, underserved and multi-cultural audiences.

"We are so grateful for the funding from the Illinois Arts Council which has exponential reach to our community,” said MAC Director Diana Martinez. “The funding helps us to offer free programming like our Lakeside Summer Series, support a college lecture series and bring students together with luminaries in the field like the recent programs we did with contemporary artist and educator Faheem Majeed. These masterclasses have direct impact on students and support the artists and new work which are integral to the future of the arts. The funding also drives tourism, and ancillary income throughout our district benefiting all of us."

Applicants are evaluated based on a demonstrated distinctive significance to their audiences and Illinois artists, delivering programming of high artistic quality with regional or statewide impact, a commitment to promoting life-long learning in the arts and increased public support for the arts, evidence of a sustained history of year-round service to communities and management and financial stability.

The $42,200 grant received by the MAC provides general operating support for more than 30 presented events, seven SchoolStage shows serving more than 8,800 local school children, six art exhibits in the Cleve Carney Art Gallery, five concerts by the MAC’s resident professional orchestra New Philharmonic, and 11 free concerts and movies held at the MAC’s Lakeside Pavilion. Funding also enables the MAC to continue its commitment to audience outreach, including the MAC-Tastic Treat Seats for Kids, and create new programs, such as the $5 ticket offer to youth and seniors in conjunction with three National Geographic Live lecture presentations. Last year, MAC served 115,000 audience members over the course of 348 events.
