Prairie Light Review, a juried magazine produced twice a year by student editors enrolled in English 2210 at College of DuPage, recently received the First Place Magazine award from the American Scholastic Press Association for its fall and spring journals from the 2016-2017 academic year.

This is the third consecutive year the publications has placed first among schools with enrollments of 2,500 or more.

“With a total of 1,000 points possible, our student editors earned 940 points in categories including content coverage, organization, design, presentation and creativity,” said PLR advisor and COD Assistant English Professor Trina Sotirakopulos.

PLR provides a venue for creative work produced by students, staff, faculty and members of the District 502 community. The magazine has been published for more than 20 years and is funded by Student Activities fees. Each term, students carefully review a packet of entries consisting of short stories and essays, as well as art submissions. After voting and discussing each entry, final selections are sent to production, she said.
