COD Hosts Free ‘Breaking Boundaries’ Career Workshop for Women Sept. 29
By Mike McKissack
College of DuPage will host “Breaking Boundaries: A Career Exploration Series for Women” from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 29, in the Technical Education Center on the College’s Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
This event is free and open to the public.
“The goal of this event is for attendees to get exposure to high paying, in-demand careers that they may not have previously considered because the careers are in typically male-dominated fields,” said COD Workforce Development Specialist Adela Meitz. “This event strongly aligns with the College’s commitment to promote training for students seeking in-demand career paths.”
During Breaking Boundaries, attendees will learn about a broad range of technology and trade careers, attend an informative panel discussion, tour the College’s training labs to gain hands-on experience, and learn about educational opportunities at College of DuPage.
According to Lisa Schvach, Director of the WorkNet DuPage County Workforce Development Division, the workshop is the first in a series of events to be held throughout the community. She said Breaking Boundaries will not only help women train for and find more gainful employment, it will also address the skills gap felt in the community and the nation.
“There are many companies in traditionally male industries that are in dire need of more skilled workers,” she said. “The jobs in these industries typically pay higher wages than many traditionally female roles and offer a quicker, easier path to upward career growth.”
Space for this event is limited. To register, please visit cod.edu/breaking-boundaries and register by Friday, Sept. 22.
