Sponsored by Chicago Metro Chapter 325 of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), the Federation of Women Contractors, and the Architecture and Construction Management programs at College of DuPage, Block Kids is a national building competition using interlocking plastic blocks and other provided materials for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Developed by the NAWIC and administered by the NAWIC Education Foundation (NEF), the award-winning Block Kids competition is designed to introduce children to the construction industry in an effort to create an awareness of and to promote an interest in future careers.
Local Block Kids competition winners will advance to regional competitions with one team from each region entered in the national competitions.
The Oct. 28 event also will include Touch-A-Truck, featuring a variety of industrial vehicles and equipment for children to experience up close.
