High School Students Discover STEM Careers at College of DuPage

More than 80 local female freshman and sophomore high school students recently spent a day at College of DuPage, investigating careers in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

Attendees learned about a broad range of fields, including chemistry, coding, engineering, environmental science and robotics. The students also had the opportunity to interact with female role models in STEM fields and participate in hands-on activities.

Welcoming students from Aurora Catholic, Downers Grove South, Glenbard East, York, Metea Valley and West Chicago high schools, the event included panel discussions featuring Angel Price, Attractions Engineering Services Manager for Pandora – The World of Avatar at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom theme park; Erna Gevondyan, former COD student and current Energy Systems Risk Analyst on the Strategic Alliance for Global Energy Solutions (SAGES) team at Argonne National Laboratory; and Emily Zvolanek, Senior Geographic Information System Analyst in Argonne’s Environmental Science division. Additional panelists included Primera CEO and President Erin Inman, Owner and President of Pioneer Service, Inc. Aneesa Muthana, CODAssistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Physics Alyssa Pasquale, COD Instructor of Mathematics Jennifer Hill, and Director of Wellness Center and OP Rehab Services at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital Prem Mony.
