Study Global Society and Culture Through Film This Spring at College of DuPage
By Jennifer Duda
Examine society and culture in world cinema during “Film as Literature,” a new course offered at College of DuPage and coinciding with the annual Global Flicks film festival.
The three credit hour, 12-week online course meets 7 to 9:50 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 24 to April 11. Six of the sessions take place at Global Flicks screenings, held in the McAninch Arts Center’s Playhouse Theatre on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
Students will learn methods of analyzing and interpreting the literary aspects of film as well as compare literary and film techniques.
Now in its 21st year, Global Flicks is co-sponsored by COD’s Field Studies/Study Abroad/Global Education program and the McAninch Arts Center. This year’s lineup features films from Iran, Ghana, India, Japan, Chile and France. Films are shown in their original language with English subtitles, and each screening concludes with a moderated discussion of the film and its subject matter.
