COD Welcomes New Ensemble Directors

College of DuPage continues to offer a variety of music courses and performance opportunities for students and community members for the fall 2014 semester.

Now in its 14th season, the College’s Chamber Orchestra welcomes new director Alison Gaines, who is currently assistant conductor of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra where she also serves as principal bassist. Gaines previously conducted with the Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Breckenridge (Colorado) Chamber Orchestra, and at Rock Valley College. She earned a doctorate of Music Arts in conducting from the University of Kansas where she worked with both orchestras and jazz ensembles.

The orchestra includes both students and community members and is offered as a one-credit course.

The COD Percussion Ensemble also is offered as a one-credit course and performs under new director Ben Wahlund. The award-winning composer, educator and performer earned a master’s degree in Music Theory and Composition and a Performance Certificate in percussion from Northern Illinois University. His works have placed in numerous competitions, including the Quey Percussion Duo Annual Composition Contest and the Percussive Arts Society International Composition Contest.
