College of DuPage will host its fourth annual Laps With the Chaps 5K Run/Walk and 100-Yard Dash on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the College of DuPage Foundation Student Emergency Fund, which was established to alleviate day-to-day expenses for COD students who are at risk of dropping out.

New this year is the College of DuPage Food Truck Rally, which will feature popular Chicago and DuPage mobile eateries from noon to 6 p.m. Also open during this time will be the Kid Zone, featuring activities for the whole family. The 100-Yard Chaps Dash will begin at 5 p.m. on the track and is for kids 12 and under, with two divisions being contested – ages 4 to 7 and ages 8 to 12.

“We want to engage with more people at this year’s event,” said Ami Chambers, COD Community Relations coordinator and Laps With the Chaps Sunset co-director. “While the Laps With the Chaps Run/Walk is great for runners, walkers and individuals who just want to enjoy our beautiful campus, we also want families, friends and community members – as well as foodies – to come out and spend the day with us.”

The 5K awards include a $200 Visa gift card for the Top Overall male and female runners and the “Middle of the Pack” winner, and all 5K race participants are eligible to win a free iPad.

Participants can register individually or as a team for the 5K. Team prizes will also be awarded for the fastest team and the fan favorite. The latter will be contested at 3:45 p.m., with the winning team determined through audience participation. All 5K race participants will receive a long-sleeved technical T-shirt and a gift bag that includes a $2 Food Truck Rally voucher.

Advance registration is $25 for individuals, $5 for currently enrolled COD students (limitations apply), and $5 for the 100-Yard Chaps Dash. A $5 discount is available for Chicago Area Runners Association members. Online registration is available through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
