Chaparral Football Preps for 2014-2015 Season, Upcoming Homecoming
By Jennifer Duda
Despite losing their conference rivals as other area community colleges discontinued their football programs, the College of DuPage Chaparrals are looking forward to an exciting upcoming season and the resurgence of homecoming, a football staple that hasn’t been observed at the College in more than 40 years.
The team returns with a relatively new offense and kicks off its regular season at home at a 1 p.m. game Saturday, Aug. 30, against Northeast Oklahoma Community College.
“It’s nice to have the guys return, though every year is different,” said Head Coach Matt Foster. “You’ll always have turnovers and you expect that when you’re doing your job academically and athletically.”
The 2014-2015 Chaparral season features Division III National Champion University of Wisconsin-Whitewater as well as defending national junior college champs Georgia Military, the Chaparrals’ opponent for this year’s homecoming game, set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. The Chaparrals finished the 2013-2014 season with a 7-4 record, ending the season with a 3-23 loss against ASA College (NY) in the Carrier Dome Bowl.
Looking to the upcoming season, Foster said the team will be challenged, but counted on that experience as it teaches players about themselves not only as individuals, but as a team unit.
“We have great coaches and teachers and great chemistry as a team,” he said. “Similar to any academic program, we want to develop our students by presenting them with challenges. That’s how they learn and that is how they realize their true potential.”
