COD Courier Student Newspaper Earns Top Awards from ICCJA

The College of DuPage student newspaper "The Courier" earned 12 top awards and an Honorable Mention at this year's Illinois Community College Journalism Association (ICCJA) conference held earlier this month at Moraine Valley Community College.

The Courier earned seven 1st Place awards:

  •     Front Page Design - Courier Staff
  •     News Story - Joash Mencias, News Editor (Wheaton)
  •     Arts Feature - Caroline Koch, Managing Editor (Naperville)
  •     Feature Writing - Caroline Koch, Managing Editor (Naperville)
  •     Sports Photo - Denton Dooley, Photo Editor (Oswego)
  •     Columns - Harroon Atcha, News Contributor (Hanover Park)
  •     Cartoons - Jacob Hoffert, Freelance Writer (Aurora)

Three 2nd Place Awards:

  •     General Excellence - Courier Staff
  •     Sports News Story - Kelly Weese, Sports Editor (Lombard)
  •     Sports Photo - Kelly Weese, Sports Editor (Lombard)

Two 3rd Place Awards:

  •     Sports Feature - Kelly Weese, Sports Editor (Lombard)
  •     News Photo - Denton Dooley, Photo Editor (Oswego)

And an Honorable Mention:

  • Arts Feature - Caroline Koch, Managing Editor (Naperville)

Founded in 1967, The Courier underwent a complete transformation of both the hard copy newspaper and website at the start of this academic year under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Jordan Gignac and Co-Advisor Christina Payton.
