New Professional Massage Clinic Open at COD
By Mike McKissack
College of DuPage Continuing Education is now offering massage therapy at its newly opened Massage Clinic in the Student Resource Center, Room 1110, on the College’s main campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.
The clinic offers a variety of treatments including deep-tissue, geriatric, ortho-bionomy, reflexology, reiki, shiatsu, sports performance and Swedish/wellness massage and Thai massage.
According to Cristina Willard, program development Specialist with the Continuing Education department, the new clinic is more than just an extension of the new Massage Therapy program at College of DuPage.
“We will have a student clinic, but the staff in our professional clinic is made up of licensed and experienced massage therapists, and the facilities were designed specifically as massage rooms in our new Continuing Education Suite,” she said. “We are happy to be able to provide a health and wellness opportunity that benefits the College of DuPage community.”
Program coordinator and licensed massage therapist Patricia O’Shaughnessy said there are several elements that set College of DuPage’s Massage Clinic apart from other similar services.
“Our services are offered to everyone, there is no membership requirement. We also schedule sessions an hour and fifteen minutes apart, guaranteeing participants receive a full hour massage.”
O’Shaughnessy also noted that the exceptional features of the clinic haven’t gone unnoticed.
“We had a student visit the clinic seeking relief from the stress of final exams. He was so impressed with our facility and the program that he decided to join the program the following week,” she said.
The clinic enables students enrolled in the Massage Therapy program at College of DuPage to be mentored by professional massage therapists, primarily for specializations including reflexology, sports, spa treatments and traditional Asian treatments.
Massage sessions at the professional clinic are $54 per hour or a discounted introductory rate of $44 for first-time customers. Sessions at the student clinic are $39 per hour.
Massage therapists are available Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Appointments are required 12 hours in advance.
