Chaparral Country is Tobacco Free!
By Robyn Johnson
It's official - Chaparral Country is tobacco free!
Effective Monday, Aug. 6, the newly instituted Tobacco Free Policy College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn prohibits the use of tobacco and tobacco-related products on all COD premises and in all College-owned vehicles.
Currently, approximately 850 colleges and universities nationwide have tobacco-free policies, and the number keeps growing, noted College of DuPage President Dr. Robert L. Breuder.
"Tobacco-free policies are gaining momentum at educational institutions across the country, and we are very pleased to be on-trend with this issue," Dr. Breuder said. "An overall ban on tobacco means a healthier, cleaner and more attractive environment for everyone who visits our campus."
To assist individuals who will be directly affected by this new policy, the College is offering free smoking cessation courses this fall for students, staff and community members. In addition, COD will host a Tobacco-Free Health Resource Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. in its Student Services Center atrium. The fair will provide tips for kicking the habit, guidelines for overall wellness and stress management, as well as information on health-based services available at the College and in the DuPage area.
