MMS UNVEILS NEW SET

Multimedia Services at College of DuPage unveils a new set designed especially for webcasts and on-demand courseware. The modular scenery is aesthetic and flexible, making it appropriate for a wide range of programs.

The set pieces can be configured into a variety of backgrounds and color scheme changes are accomplished with simple adjustments to lighting.

The desk shown will seat 1 to 4 guests. For additional information contact David Gorski at (630) 942-2468, or gorski@cod.edu.

MMS HOSTS INTERN KATJA MAYER

Multimedia Services was privileged to have Katja Mayer, a 22-year-old German exchange student, working as a departmental intern from January through June 2008.  Katja was one of 75 German students awarded the highly competitive Congress-Bundestag-Youth-Exchange scholarship.  CBYX is an exchange work and study program between Germany and the United States.  Participants spend a year abroad, enrolling in one semester of full-time, community college study and six months working in a paid position related to their field of interest.

Katja enjoyed her time at College of DuPage, studying Management, Mass Communications, American Politics and Improvisational Acting.  She worked for one semester in the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs before bringing her talents and enthusiasm to Multimedia Services.  Here, she was able to participate in all aspects of media production, from script writing, to various technical crew positions, to video editing.  Multimedia Services will miss Katja’s dedication and positive attitude, and we wish her the best of luck in her future educational and professional career.

MMS PRODUCES NEW BROADCAST TELEVISION COMMERCIAL

Multimedia Services recently finished production of a thirty second television commercial targeting potential adult students.  The needs and concerns of older students are addressed in an eye-catching, brand-driven message from the college.  Using green screen technology, actors come to life in an animated world as they recognize the advantages, convenience and affordability of College of DuPage.  The ad will run simultaneously with last year’s thirty second commercial aimed at the same audience, along with a spot focused for traditional students.  All three spots are currently airing and can be seen on multiple channels by local subscribers to Comcast and Wide Open West.

The new ad is the fourth television commercial produced by Multimedia Services with the goal of generating awareness of the college and increasing enrollment.  MMS also produced a fifteen second commercial for theatrical audiences, playing before films at AMC Cantera 30.

Three of the commercials produced in 2007 were honored with national awards: two Silver Telly’s and the Videographer Award of Excellence.

THE ACCORDENT SYSTEM

College of DuPage is answering the call for engaging, media-rich, customized educational training that benefits the community and beyond with the recent acquisition of the Accordant System.

The Accordent System is a web-based learning tool that simplifies creation, management and delivery of video streaming presentations, allowing for simultaneous viewing and interaction with synchronized supplemental content.  Users may watch and listen to presentations at their own pace, while accessing additional materials such as slides, graphic representations, animations, demonstrative video, other resources and comprehension tests.

College of DuPage acquired this sophisticated presentation software at the recommendation of IT, with big plans to integrate this highly flexible learning tool into online subscription services for training and distance learning.

Multimedia Services, in cooperation with IT Special Services immediately began planning production and implementation of programming.  Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) will be the first to provide training to police offers with two specialized series.  One focuses on staying current with the legal issues and rulings that govern effective police work.  The other will concentrate on the awareness and sensitivity required when dealing with autistic victims, witnesses and perpetrators.

PODCASTING

COD is podcasting!  Podcasting is a method of publishing and distributing audio or video files on the internet for listening on mobile devices, such as mp3 players, and personal computers.  What makes a podcast unique is the ability to subscribe to a program of interest, allowing new content to be delivered automatically as soon as it is available.  Best of all, it’s free.

College of DuPage understands that podcasting is an invaluable and powerful educational resource.  Students appreciate the accessability, and more and more instructors are enhancing their courses with podcasts.

Check out CODCast, the podcast page published and hosted by Multimedia Services, for regularly updated class content, lectures, entertainment, social issues and more.

DIGITAL STORAGE

Multimedia Services is completely digital.  Technology advances, presenting innovative ways of enjoying media.  Just as vinyl records gave way to audio CD’s, which are threatened by online commerce, media has experienced the gradual extinction of video tape for retrieval and storage.  A completely digital environment is ideal for gathering, manipulating, searching and archiving media content.
By using a portable, digital recorder that interfaces with cameras, Multimedia Services is able to radically improve the efficiency of workflow.

Original footage is immediately ready for editing, without capturing, file transfer or file conversion.  Disk-based storage allows for virtually limitless capacity.  What’s more, entirely digital media is also future-proof – material created today will be compatible with the breakthroughs of tomorrow.

FINAL CUT PRO

The non-linear video editing platform Final Cut Pro is now used to assemble Multimedia Services’ monthly news magazine program, Images.  Keeping viewers up to date on the people, places, events and happenings at COD, Images is an informative and entertaining way to keep up with our dynamic community.
Behind the scenes, Images stays as current as the topics it covers.  Since 1982, the program always utilizes cutting edge software and technology to deliver the quality product its viewers have grown to expect.

The addition of Final Cut Pro to Multimedia Services’ spectrum of tools allows producer Kevin Willman to employ contemporary production techniques that make Images fun to watch and appealing to a broader audience.  Final Cut Pro supports nearly every video format available, including High Definition.  Images is produced in HD, readying the program for the upcoming change in broadcasting standards.
