New Media

new me·di·a
The term "new media" is a moving target. It can be described as new technology such as DVD, streaming video, mpeg compression, Flash and Shockwave animation, wireless transmission and web-based interactivity. But new media can also be described as new uses for existing technologies such as digital libraries, interactive story telling, and distance learning.

Multimedia Services at College of DuPage has made a commitment to exploring and developing new media technologies as they relate to the delivery of instructional materials and media to the College Community. In addition to the creation of our streaming media web site, Multimedia Services has recently completed work on several new media projects. Common tools for new media creation in our facility include Macromedia's Authorware, Director, Flash, Shockwave and Dreamweaver. We have also worked extensively with Microsoft's Windows Media 8 encoding utility to produce the highest quality compressed media streams available.
