Multimedia Services ::

Who do I contact to learn more about Streaming Media?
Streaming media works well in many courses and integrates well with BlackBoard. Multimedia Services will assist you in preparing media for streaming on the web. Contact Multimedia Services at (630) 942-4299 or e-mail at gorski@cod.edu. You can also visit the Streaming Media web page.

What’s a Podcast?  How do I get started?
Podcasts are similar to streaming audio files for the web, with one big difference. Podcasts are most efficient as free, subscription based files. Once your audience subscribes, they will receive each new podcast as you publish it.  BlackBoard users can also embed podcasts in the course folders. Even slides and video may be included in the content.
Contact Sal Garcia (630) 942-2025 for additional information.
Visit our podcast page for examples of this technology in action.

I keep hearing about the Accordent system, what is it, and how can I use it for the classroom?
Accordent is an authoring system we use to develop rich media featuring video of the presenter along with PowerPoint slides from a lecture, or other media enhancements.  The content appears simultaneously on one computer screen and is easily navigated by users watching at their own pace.  The advantage of the system is the ease and speed of creation. Click here to see some examples.

I have a great idea for a media project that will help out in the classroom. How do I get started?
Contact Multimedia Services at (630) 942-4299 to discuss the project, your timetable, and how we can assist you. Pending approval, we will assign a producer and schedule production.

Why won't the DVD’s I purchased in Europe play on my machines?
Due to copyright laws DVD rights are assigned by regions.  Region 1 is for U.S., U.S. Territories and Canada.  Region 2 is for the United Kingdom, Europe, South Africa, Japan, and the Middle East.  Regions 3 through 8 cover the rest of the world.
When purchasing DVD’s internationally look for NTSC video, Region 1 or Region 0. Region 0 means there is no region coding, making the disc playable in the United States.  There is no easy conversion for other regions or formats.

I'd like to use some video segments in a PowerPoint program I plan to use in a lecture.  Is that possible?
Provided you have copyright permission we can compress those video clips into several formats for your PC or Mac such as, Mpeg, WMV, AVI, Flash and QuickTime. These are the most popular compressed formats and should work in most programs.

I’ve been asked to give a presentation on camera, what do I need to know?
 We’ve developed a presenter’s guide to answer your questions and prepare you for making an on-camera appearance.  This is especially helpful if you’ve been asked to participate in a teleconference.  Click here to watch it on the web: Teleconference Presenters Guide.
