March 19 Election COD: A Vital Resource

College of DuPage: A Vital Community Resource

• Since 1967, College of DuPage has been a model of distinction, offering a wide range of quality, affordable and accessible educational programs and services to students in Community College District 502, which encompasses 50 communities in nearly all of DuPage and parts of Cook and Will counties.

• As the largest single campus community college in the nation, College of DuPage provides an affordable, quality education to more than 34,000 students, while an additional 30,000 residents and groups make use of the college’s classrooms and meeting rooms annually.

• Since C.O.D. opened its doors, the population of District 502 has increased dramatically, from less than 400,000 to more than 960,000 today, while student population has increased from a mere 2,600 students to more than 34,000.

• One quarter of the area's graduating high school seniors attend C.O.D.

• C.O.D. meets the needs of an increasingly diverse population through programs that serve residents of every background and age group, as well as local businesses. Programs that reflect this include English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, the Business and Professional Institute (BPI), Adult Fast Track, Youth Education, and the Older Adult Institute.

• C.O.D.’s corps of 2,400 faculty and staff also make it one of the area’s largest employers and a vital economic engine to the region, both by providing full- and part-time employment at the college and by training potential employees for work at area businesses.

• C.O.D. is an engine of economic growth, providing training for current and prospective employees of local businesses.

• In order to ensure that College of DuPage remains a vital institution providing the programs and services the community really wants and needs, the college is involved in ongoing comprehensive planning.
