IBM Home Page Reader

IBM Home Page Reader brings the world of the Internet to users who are blind or have low vision. It is an award-winning, talking Web browser that uses the power of speech to aid users in exploring the World Wide Web. Home Page Reader speaks Web-based information aloud in a clear and effective manner as it is presented on the computer screen. Users hear everything from a description of graphics, forms, frames and tables.

IBM Home Page Reader Quick Start

Use this Quick Start guide to learn a few simple commands to quickly be able to use HPR to navigate Web sites. Or, if you prefer, take a guided tour through the HPR talking tutorial or become a truly advanced user by reading Home Page Reader's extensive online Help.

You will need to have your own headphones or borrow a pair of headphones at the Reference, CCIC and Circulation Desk before using Home Page Reader.

Basic Keyboard Commands

Note: make sure the number lock (NumLock) is deactivated to ensure normal operation of HPR.

Talking Tutorial

HPR 3.0 has a built-in talking tutorial that will teach you the more advanced and powerful features of Home Page Reader. When using HPR, press ALT + H + T, at any time to start the tutorial.

You can also press F1 at any time while using HPR to access the HPR help system.
