Everyone,
including faculty members, must present a borrower's card in order to
check out materials. Your faculty picture ID becomes your borrower's card
once you register for Library privileges at the Circulation Desk. If you have not yet registered your staff identification card with the Library, you may apply online for temporary access to our electronic databases. If your card has expired, you can call Circulation Services at 630-942-2106 for a temporary renewal.
Most Library materials, other than videos and DVDs, circulate for 3 weeks,
with the possibility of a 3 week renewal; if you need the item longer,
please request a semester check out. Be aware, however, that items checked
out for the semester are subject to recall after 3 weeks if needed by another
patron. There is a limit of 40 items which may be out to any faculty member
at one time. If you have special needs beyond these limits, please speak
to the librarian assigned to your division. Although faculty are not charged
daily overdue fines on materials from the General collection, they are
charged for overdue rental videos and DVDs and any materials which are
lost or damaged. Overdue Library materials are considered lost after 45
days.
You may schedule a research instruction session for your students with your division librarian. You and your librarian will determine the content and goals of the session based on your research assignment. Your librarian is also able to assist you in designing the assignment so that your objectives are met and your students learn the information literacy concepts and skills they need to succeed with your assignment. The session may also include techniques for assessing the level of your students’ acquisition of the information literacy concepts and skills presented in the session. The session can range from 50 minutes to 2 hours and more than one session can be scheduled.
For further information about the Library’s instruction program, visit the Library's Information Literacy Instruction Program Web pages.
If you wish to do your own photocopying, you may make single copies of Library materials for instructional use. These materials must be in compliance with the Copyright Revision Act of 1976 which is posted by all copy machines. Sign out the copy card at the Print Center.
Faculty
members can reserve group study rooms to meet with students. The rooms vary
in size and will comfortably accommodate anywhere from 4 to 12 people. Contact
Circulation Services at 942-2106 to reserve.
The library instruction classrooms are heavily used, with priority given
to the librarians, but it is possible to arrange for the use of a classroom for library-related purposes
on a one-time basis. Requests can be accepted no more than three days in
advance. Contact your division librarian to reserve
a classroom.
For more information, read the Library's Booking and Use of Library Classrooms policy.
Both Library materials and your personal materials may be placed on Reserve for use by your students. Materials on Reserve are held behind the Circulation Desk and checked out to your students for a limited loan period or in-library use. Some materials may be made available electronically. Please consult the Library's Course Reserve Policy for more information and for on-line forms. Since many faculty use this service, please make your requests as far in advance at possible.
Books and journal articles not owned by the Library may be obtained through Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary loan requests may be made online at any time with your library card. Your librarian can also arrange for single-copy reproduction of materials owned by the Library, as long as the copying does not violate the Copyright Law. To check the status of your request, contact the Interlibrary Loan staff at 942-2166.
Circulation Services distributes a variety of AV equipment to the classroom.
When booking equipment be sure to specify what you will need, the room where you would like delivery, the date needed, and the beginning and ending times for the class.
Videocassettes and DVDs may be booked for pickup at the Circulation Desk in the Library. Materials for West Campus instructors may be picked up in TEC 1061. Items will be checked out in advance for easy pickup and may be returned to any Library book drop location.
For phone requests, call 942-2106. The absolute minimum advance notice needed for bookings for West Campus and off-campus orders is 2 working days; 4 hours for Art Center and CHCrequests; and 2 hours for other main campus sites. Please give as much notice as possible.
For e-mail requests, allow a minimum of 2 working days advance notice. You will be sent a confirming e-mail.
Circulation Services has a number of laptops available
for faculty and staff use. They are intended to short term use such as
presentations at conferences or meetings. The loan period for laptops
is two weeks; they may be renewed for one week if not needed by other
faculty or staff. It is recommended that you reserve the laptop in advance
just as you do other equipment. Requests may be made by phone (942-2106)
or e-mail.
Requests for laptops for long term projects should be approved by the
Faculty Technology Advisory
Committee (FTAC).
Contact your division librarian to assist you in locating information for professional or curriculum related research projects.
