How MetaFind Works
MetaFind searches several sources at once...
...and returns one easy-to-browse list of results!
When should I use MetaFind?
MetaFind is a useful tool:
- When you want to search many resources at once
- When you want an overview of the kinds of information available on your topic
- When you aren't sure which resource to search
- When you want to determine which resource is best to use for your topic
- When you want to make sure you aren't overlooking valuable resources

What are the Limitations of MetaFind?
MetaFind is a new service that is always being improved. Since it is in the experimental stages, only some of the Library's resources are available through MetaFind. It is important to use MetaFind as only one of the tools you use to conduct your research.
Keep in mind that MetaFind:
- Doesn't search everything in the Library (only a selection is available).
- Cannot utilize an individual database's advanced searching features, like special subject headings and thesauri.
- Cannot perform stable Subject heading searches across many resources.
- Doesn't use common limiting options (full text only, scholarly resources or date ranges)
- Doesn't approach the level of sophisticated searching possible in an individual database.
Remember, just because it isn't in MetaFind doesn't mean it doesn't exist! Talk with a librarian if you need help or send your question to the Library's Ask-A-Librarian service.
