What is Instant Messaging (IM)?

IM is a way of communicating with another person or a group of people over the Internet. Using IM, you can have real-time text-based conversations with a C.O.D. Librarian.

How do I IM the Library?

If you already have AOL Instant Messenger or Yahoo! Messenger installed on your computer, you can click on the appropriate status indicator below to start a session:

AOL Instant Messenger:
Yahoo! Messenger:

Or, you can add the C.O.D. Library to your buddy list (askcod1 in AIM or Yahoo!).

If you've never used IM before, see the directions below for downloading IM software and getting a screen name.

Getting started with AOL Instant Messenger

Visit the AOL Instant Messenger site and click on the "Download" button.
Follow the instructions to download AOL Instant Messenger.
Visit the AOL Instant Messenger Screen Name Registration page and fill out the form to get a screen name.
If you don't want to download any software, you can use AIM Express

Getting started with Yahoo! Messenger

Visit the Yahoo! Messenger site and click on the "Get it now" button.
Follow the instructions to download AOL Instant Messenger.
After installing Yahoo! Messenger, you will see a "Get a Yahoo! ID" button that you can use to sign up for a Yahoo! ID.
