Macromedia Flash fileUsing InterLibrary Loan Services

Who is eligible for this service?

Interlibrary Loan is a free service offered to anyone who has a current C.O.D. Library Card. You may apply for a Library card at the Circulation Desk.

How long will it take for my request to arrive?

Journal, magazine, or newspaper articles usually take about 5 week days to arrive. Books usually take 10 week days or more. You will be notified by phone or e-mail (your choice) when the item is available.

Where do I pick up my request?

Pick up your ordered item at the Circulation Desk in the C.O.D. Library after you have been notified by phone or email of its arrival. When the article that you requested is sent to us in electronic form, we will e-mail it to you or you may have an Interlibrary Loan article mailed to your home. The cost is $2.00 per article. We do not mail Interlibrary Loan books.

What items cannot be requested?

Certain items may not be requested through Interlibrary Loan:

Can I renew an Interlibrary Loan book?

The lending library sets the due date. If you need the book longer, contact the Interlibrary Loan staff at 942-2166 at least three days before the due date. Once the book is overdue, a renewal cannot be arranged. Overdue fines are 25 cents per day per book.

Where do I return an Interlibrary Loan book?

Return the book to the Circulation Desk in the C.O.D. Library. You may also return the book in any C.O.D. Library book return on campus or at the Naperville, Addison, or Westmont Centers. Please allow one day for the book to reach the library.

Are there any limits to the number of items that I can request?

There are no limits for students, C.O.D. faculty, administrators and staff. Effective November 1, 2006, there is a limit of 10 items (books and articles) per semester that can be requested by community borrowers.

Do I have to return articles or book chapters?

Photocopies of articles or chapters do not need to be returned. They are yours to keep.

May I order textbooks that I need for my class?

Yes, you may, but be aware that textbooks are not readily available in libraries. If we are successful at locating the textbook for you, the loan period is likely to be much shorter than the length of the semester--usually about a month. You might be able to renew the book, but again, the book is likely to be due back before the semester is finished.

May I order a book that you have in the Library but is checked out or missing?

Yes.

Why won't my request go through online?

Your card may be expired or you may owe the Library money for overdue materials. You can check your library record online at https://lrc.cod.edu/patroninfo~S0. Please go to the Circulation Desk to update or clear your card.

Can I order an article that is in the C.O.D. Library collection?

Yes, but you must be a current C.O.D. online student. There is a $2.00 mailing charge. Please contact the Interlibrary Loan department to order.
