The Library has four different types of collections of books and videos. You can check out books and videos from the general collection, get videos from the circulation desk to view in the Library, use materials from the reference collection to look up quick, factual information and access electronic books on your computer from home. Below are the tools you can use to locate these materials.

Books and Videos:

Use the library catalog to search for materials in the Library. The catalog can be searched by subject, keyword, title and author.

Searching tips:
Search the catalog by subject first. You can try such subjects as "Plastics" "Plastics extrusion " or "Injection molding of plastics."

Doing a keyword search can help you find the correct subject heading. Do a keyword search and select a book or video that is in the area that you are interested in. Clicking on an appropriate subject heading at the bottom of the record will take you to similar items.

Do a subject search in the Library Catalog. When the search completes, select Limit/Sort at the top of the screen. Limit your search to the Material Type of VIDEO (VHS).

CRC Engineering Handbooks Online.
(available also from the Library's Articles and Databases page)

This is a huge collection of online books on a variety of engineering and technology topics. (You'll need your library card to search this database from home.)

Searching Tips:
Try browsing a general category such as"Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing" or "Mechanical Engineering."

Use the advanced search feature to search for words in natural language or refine your search to only the books you are interested in.

Your search terms will be highlighted in the section of the book you choose to view. You can skip from section to section by using the navigation on the left side of the book viewer window.

It is easiest to select a relevant title, such as those shown, and search its contents. Searching across the whole collection of hundreds of books can take several minutes and sometimes can return many irrelevant results.

You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader, a common web browser plug-in, to view the books. The database will let you know if you don't have the reader.
