Research Office Topics

As an administrative assistant, it will be your responsibility to keep current on topics related to office technology, office management and human resources. The following project will introduce you to research using the Internet and the Library databases.

The topics you will be researching are:

Web/Internet ethics
Job search techniques

Part 1

Research each of the topics listed above using the following:

A search engine
A subject directory
A meta-seach engine

Enter your results into the table following the instructions as outlined in your assignment.

The Library has links (http://www.cod.edu/library/research/searchTools/index.htm) to different search engines, subject directories and meta-search engines. Select "Search the web" on the Library home page.

Part 2

Use the Library databases listed below to locate an article written within the past two years for each of the topics listed above. Summarize the articles, following the format as specified by your assignment. The databases may be accessed from your home computer with a valid College of DuPage library card.

Business & Company ASAP
This business database contains many articles on office technology and management topics.
ABI Inform
This business database also contains articles and is especially strong on management topics.
Expanded Academic Index
This general database has articles on general office topics.
