Today's Libraries: LTA101
This class introduces students to the core concepts and organization of
libraries.
The history and development of libraries and library associations is covered.
Course Objectives:
- To give students an understanding of the libraries place in the
intellectual history of mankind, especially America.
- To familiarize students with the tools necessary to pursue their
coursework in the College of Du Page Library Technology program
- To acquaint students with the professional vocabulary of the library
culture.
- To allow students to distinguish the major types of libraries and their
differences.
- To introduce the core concepts of the Intellectual Freedom documents
assembled by the ALA.
- To acquaint students with the roles and benefits of library associations
and consortia.
- To outline, in a meaningful way the materials that comprise a library's
collection.
LTA 101 uses a Web-Board
for it's class discussion and homework assignment collection. This board is
meant for the students currently taking the class.

Course requirements and procedures:
- Late assignments will be lowered by 10%, and will not be accepted if
more than one week late.
