Description
Students will discover the online options available
for choosing topics and gathering background information. In this
assignment, they will learn the differences between types of databases
and the content available in them. Students will also learn how
to locate and print the available information presented.
Objectives
- To introduce students to two online databases and show how
they are accessed, organized and searched.
- To introduce students to two methods of searching for background
information on a topic (Eg. keyword and subject)
- To show students how to read the screens and retrieve available
information.
- To highlight the advantages of using a database over an
Internet search engine like Yahoo!
or Google.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will find articles in two different types of databases
in order to understand the differences and features of online
databases.
- Students will print two sources in order to demonstrate
the ability to know how to access the full content of a source.
- Students will record information needed for citing a source
in order to demonstrate that they know what parts of the article
are needed for a complete citation.
- Students will explain the value of two articles as they
relate to the topic in order to show the ability to analyze
and apply the information as needed.
