Research Basics for Students

Need to do research for a class paper or project? Take this workshop to learn the basics of library research. You will learn how to navigate the C.O.D. Library and find resources such as books and articles on your research topic.

Internet I: Finding & Evaluating Information

Sign up for this workshop if you have some basic experience with using Web search engines, like Google, but would like to improve your searching and evaluation skills. You will also learn Web site evaluation techniques that will help you determine if a Web site is the best one for your research topic.

Internet II: Advanced Searching Strategies

Learn effective and time-saving strategies used by the pros to find the best information on the Internet you can. You'll learn about such advanced concepts as Boolean logic, nesting, truncation and field searching. Required: You must have taken the "Internet I: Finding & Evaluating Information" workshop before taking this workshop or have comparable knowledge and skills.

Citing Sources with NoodleBib Software

Learn how to use NoodleBib software to help you manage and create reference lists in MLA or APA format. You will learn how to create a NoodleBib account and make a reference list with the most common kinds of sources. PowerPoint Presentation

Social Software: Blogs, Wikis and More

An introduction to social software: online tools used to collaborate, share and interact with others. We will take a look at examples of blogs, wikis and podcasts; learn how to get information “delivered” via RSS feeds; and talk about how to manage all this information using aggregators. Familiarity with computers and the Internet required. Here is a peek at the content of the workshop.
