The College and Career Information Center (CCIC) is located on the second floor of the Library. In this collection, you will find materials on how to locate job openings, how to write a resume and gather data about employment statistics in your chosen industry. The Library also subscribes to several online resources to guide you in your job search. Below you will find tools to help you find Library materials on careers and locate information on the Internet.

Use the library catalog to search for materials in the Library about careers and job hunting. The catalog can be searched by subject, keyword, title and author.
Searching tips:
Search the catalog by subject first. To find information about a careers in technology or how to write a resume, start with the subject headings of "Technology Vocational Guidance" or "Resumes"
Doing a keyword search can help you find the correct subject heading. Do a keyword search and select a book or video that is in the area that you are interested in. Clicking on an appropriate subject heading at the bottom of the record will take you to similar items.

There are a variety of tools on the Internet to assist you in finding a job or changing your career. The following are resources that the Library subscribes to, as well as some excellent Internet sites. The Thomas Register is a directory of manufacturers, distributors and consultants in all areas of automation and manufacturing. Refine your search to a geographic area to find companies in your area to begin your job search. This directory is also located in book form in the Library's reference collection.

Reference USA is a searchable directory of United States businesses that includes information such as company size, contact names and related industries. Refine your search to geographic area by state, county, city or zipcode.

Career Information System (CIS) offers regional, state and national information about occupations, schools, financial aid, and job searches. This resource is only available in the Library.

O*NET is sponsored by the Department of Labor and state employment agencies. Provides a nationwide job bank plus individual job banks from 2,000 state employment services offices.

Use Career Builder to search the classified job listings of over 130 local newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune, L. A. Times, New York Times, Boston Globe and others. Provides a menu choice of career field and location, giving information of Web and newspaper postings for jobs that match.The program will search for job listing matches and send them to your e-mail address, if you register. Registration is free.
